Course Overview

The Aviation Security Managers course is designed to ensure that all persons in the role of Aviation Security Manager understand their role and responsibilities in ensuring that a Transport Security Programme (TSP) and its implementation meet all legal provisions. Participants of this course will be guided through the legal framework of aviation security, as well as understanding the current threat landscape and wider security issues that impact the aviation environment.

Key areas of aviation security will be examined, including contingency planning and incident response, air cargo and mail security, as well as security technology and equipment. The inclusion of the latest information and international trends, along with guest speakers and facility tours (subject to operational requirements), ensures that participants are exposed to current best practices and advancements in aviation security.

The 5-day Aviation Security Managers Course covers the following modules:

Day 1

  1. The Threat to Aviation: Recent attack methodologies and events
  2. International & National Objectives of Aviation Security and Legislation: ICAO, Regional & National
  3. Quality Assurance & SeMS: Managing & Assuring Security Outcomes
  4. Designing Security & Access Control: Effectiveness & Sustainability
  5. ASM Group Exercise – Designing for Security & Access Control

Day 2

  1. Security Technology: The Basics of Detection Settings
  2. The Airport Operators Perspective (Airport Operator Guest Speaker)
  3. The Air Carrier Perspective (Air Carrier Guest Speaker)
  4. Aircraft Security: The Aircraft as the Focal Point
  5. RACA roles & responsibilities: The Current International & National requirements

Day 3

  1. The Role of the Manager in AvSec
  2. Understanding Human Factors (Soft Skills Guest Speaker)
  3. Recognition of Firearms, Explosives and Prohibited Items: Practical & Theoretic Basics of Explosive & Firearms
  4. ASM Managers Group Exercise

Day 4

  1. Screening Vendor Management: KPIs, Metrics and getting the best from a security vendor
  2. Contingency Planning & Decision Making Model: Decision making in the context of Contingency Planning
  3. Airport Visit (Operationally Dependent Visit to a live screening function)

Day 5

  1. Training: Training requirements, including Human and Operational Performance (HOP) overview
  2. Open Forum
  3. Recap & Revision
  4. Exam & Results
  5. Course Close

This training is designed for any person with general responsibility at national or local level for ensuring that a TSP and its implementation meet all legal provisions.

At a national level, this is the person who has oversight of policy and practical implementation relating to security issues on behalf of the airport, air carrier, regulated air cargo agent (RACA), and regulated supplier of in-flight supplies (IFS).

At a local level this is the person with local oversight of policy and practical implementation for the whole site, or a significant area of it (e.g. a terminal or local station).

Applicants will be required to have their security status approved prior to enrolment being confirmed on this course. 

This will include photographic evidence of an ASIC, or the provision of suitable details to Southpac Aerospace. 

This training is delivered in an instructor-led, aviation based environment. It is available as a public course with dates as scheduled, and as in-house training (by arrangement) for a specific company-based course.
